Die Ausstellung zeigt die neueste künstlerische Arbeit des venezolanischen Künstlers Antonio Briceño aus dem Jahr 2020. Er hat dieses Projekt gestartet, um die Vielfalt und Mobilität des Menschen hervorzuheben und eine Reflexion über Migration als einen konstitutiven Prozess der Spezies von ihren Ursprüngen anzuregen.
Statement des Künstlers
Man schätzt, dass der Ursprung des Homo sapiens, in Afrika südlich der Sahara, vor etwa 300.000 Jahren stattfand und seitdem hat die Menschheit begonnen, sich auszubreiten, bis sie alle bewohnbaren Orte auf dem Planeten besiedelt hat. Die ältesten Überreste wurden in Ostafrika gefunden. Wenn man davon ausgeht, dass dies der ursprüngliche Standort der Spezies ist, sind alle von uns, die außerhalb davon leben, die Kinder der Völkerwanderung. Die DNA des modernen Menschen ist ein Mosaik, das aus einer kontinuierlichen Mischung besteht, das Produkt einer endlosen Wanderschaft. Migrationen sind ein äußerst komplexes Phänomen, das sehr unterschiedliche Ursachen hat. Weltweit gibt es Wellen von Migranten, die aus den unterschiedlichsten Gründen aus ihren Herkunftsorten fliehen, in der Hoffnung auf ein besseres Leben. Nach Angaben der UN gibt es 250 Millionen Migranten, 3,3 % der Weltbevölkerung. Im Jahr 2014 musste ich aufgrund einer beispiellosen sozialen Krise in Venezuela, meinem Heimatland, nach Barcelona auswandern. Seitdem ist die Tatsache der Migration eine zentrale Bedeutung in meinem Leben. Vor ein paar Monaten beschloss ich, durch die Untersuchung meiner DNA die Herkunft meiner Vorfahren zu erforschen. Als ich die Ergebnisse der Analyse erhielt, verstand ich das Ausmaß des Migrationsprozesses. In meiner DNA ist die Geschichte der menschlichen Migration sehr gut vertreten: Es gibt Informationen aus 21 genetischen Gruppen der Welt. Da ich selbst ein Migrant bin, entschied ich mich für dieses Projekt, das ich "Yo somos" genannt habe, in dem ich die Vielfalt und Mobilität des Menschen hervorheben und eine Reflexion über Migration als konstitutiven Prozess der Spezies von ihren Ursprüngen an vorschlagen möchte. Ich möchte die Frage nach der Unmöglichkeit reiner und unveränderlicher Rassen auf den Plan rufen und die Vielfalt hervorheben, nicht nur in Kulturen und Nationen, sondern bis hin zur individuellen Ebene. Aus digitalen Überlagerungen von Porträts von Menschen, die wie ich von jedem der im Bericht über meine DNA genannten Orte nach Barcelona eingewandert sind, habe ich mehrere Serien von Bildern, Videos und Installationen konstruiert, die sich auf die Faktizität der Migration und einige ihrer Folgen (Erinnerung, Trennung, Begegnungen usw.) beziehen, in einem Spiel, das zwischen dem Wissenschaftlichen und dem Metaphorischen verläuft.

The exhibition shows the latest artistic work of Venezuelan artist Antonio Briceño from 2020. He started this project to highlight the diversity and mobility of human beings and propose a reflection on migration as a constitutive process of the species from its origins.
Artist statement
It is estimated that the origin of Homo sapiens, in sub-Saharan Africa, occurred some 300,000 years ago and since then humanity has begun to expand until it has conquered all the inhabitable places on the planet. The oldest remains have been found in East Africa. Assuming that this is the original site of the species, all of us who live outside of it are the children of migration. The DNA of modern humans is a mosaic built from a continuous mix, the product of an endless journey. Migrations are an extremely complex phenomenon that has very different causes. Worldwide, there are waves of migrants who flee their places of origin, for multiple reasons, in the hope of a better life. According to the UN, there are 250 million migrants, 3.3% of the world's population. In 2014, due to an unprecedented social crisis in Venezuela, my country, I had to emigrate to Barcelona. Since then, the fact of migration has been a central figure in my life. A few months ago I decided to investigate, through the study of my DNA, the origin of my ancestors. When I received the results of the analysis I understood the magnitude of the migratory process. My DNA contains the history of human migration very well represented: there is information from 21 genetic groups in the world. Since I am currently a migrant, I decided to undertake this project, which I have called "Yo somos", in which I want to highlight the diversity and mobility of human beings and propose a reflection on migration as a constitutive process of the species from its origins. I seek to put on the table the issue of the impossibility of pure and immobile races and to highlight diversity, not only in cultures and nations, but up to the individual level. From digital superimpositions of portraits of people who, like me, have migrated to Barcelona from each of the sites mentioned in the report on my DNA, I have constructed several series of images, videos and installations relating to the fact of migration and some of its consequences (memory, separation, encounters, etc.), in a game that goes between the scientific and the metaphorical.

With the images that make up the exhibition, the author has edited a series of videos in which the changes are sequentially product of the fusion of characters, to allude to the latent presence of the genetic and cultural contributions that make up the personality, and its continuous and enigmatic irruption throughout life.
